PROCESS
-
Designing the perfect engagement ring begins with getting to know you and your partner. Taking into consideration personal fashion, lifestyle, and any emotional connection characteristics that could be weaved into the piece. Book a private appointment with KBY’s design consultant.
A piece not only designed for you but MADE JUST FOR YOU.
-
Consult & Concept
Firstly, you’ll meet with me for a complimentary consultation, bringing your ideas, thoughts, and the purpose of the piece. Time and place are no object – I’m happy to meet where and when it’s most convenient for you. If you have pictures of inspiration, jewellery, or stones you’d like to reuse in the new piece please bring them to this discussion. The design and creation process are a collaboration between your ideas and my knowledge and skills, working together to create a unique and meaningful piece. You will be involved and informed on every step of this process.
-
Quote & Design
After the consultation, I will start drafting a preliminary design, with sketches and mock-ups of a few different options to choose from. If the job requires outsourcing stones, we will also meet to look at a selection of diamonds or other gemstones that suit your project and your stated budget. Following this meeting, you will receive a quote for the project before we move on to the next step. At this point, we will also discuss a deposit.
-
Render & 3D Models
Once the design has been settled, I will create a 3D CAD model and computer-rendered perspectives to show how it will look from different angles. We can also meet in person for you to see the fully three-dimensional mould of the design and truly get a feeling for it. Your happiness with the final piece is my utmost concern; this is the time for any and all final modifications, no matter how big or small.
-
Validation & Completed Piece
Once you’ve decided upon every aspect of the design and given your approval, production begins! Your piece is cast in the chosen precious metal, and if any stones were requested in the design, they would be set now with expert technique. Depending on the intricacy of the design, the project will generally take 2-4 weeks to reach completion from this point. Kirkby Designs will do everything within our power to accommodate any special requests at this stage. The outstanding balance will be settled at the pickup time, and then your authentic and original Kirkby Designs piece is ready for your appreciation and enjoyment for many years to come.

Before & After
-
This client came to Kirkby Designs looking for a redesign of her engagement ring and wedding band.
She felt the current look was too bulky and was not showcasing their beautiful center stone as well as it could.
The main concern was to keep the original sentiment by reusing all their existing diamonds.
The new look is more delicate, refined, and classic where the center stone has all the attention.
FAMILY HEIRLOOM
-
Her parents both gave her their matching wedding bands. Currently wearing her mother's band, both were extremely sentimental, and she was unsure
what to do with her father's band.
Suggesting she make a matching bangle using the gold and diamonds from her father's band. Both parents are now being represented with the same design as originally intended.
Love Story
-
This couple both shared a passion for adventure and the ocean. When it came time for the engagement ring, he wanted the ring to convey this sentiment.
The only request was a low profile setting for easy everyday wear and something unique to them.
Driven from the inspiration of his compass tattoo, nautical rope and the unique shape of a marquise diamond the design came to life.
The points of the marquise and the pave diamond side accents were to mimic a compass. The finishing touch was the white gold rope banding to bring the
whole look together. While they sailed through the Caribbean, he proposed on a secluded beach of the British Virgin Islands.
FAMILY HEIRLOOM
-
Repurposing a grandfather's wedding band carries inherent sentimentality. When the band was resized, there remained a few pieces of platinum, a challenging metal to rework. Unable to be recast, these remnants found new life in a unique creation. The client requested a cross bracelet, prompting the transformation of a gold necklace into the cross's form. The surplus gold from the necklace was used to craft the solid gold cross, while the platinum was melted down into a sphere, serving as the centerpiece. This process exemplifies the beauty of precious metals— their capacity for reinvention.
before & After
-
In search of a modern twist for her wedding set, we melted down this client's gold and meticulously reset all the diamonds from both the band and engagement ring into a stunning new piece.
BEFORE & AFTER
-
I had the joy of redesigning a magnificent ring for a client, infusing her treasured diamonds and emerald into a fresh, captivating design. This collaborative journey was a delight, seamlessly merging her sentimental gems with a contemporary flair, resulting in a one-of-a-kind creation that beautifully mirrors her individuality.
something personal
-
Some creations do not begin with a story but are ready to start one. This customer came in with her own gold and diamonds from jewellery no longer worn.
She wanted an initial pendant in her written script.
travel memories
-
Some travels deserve more than a photograph. But rather a token, a creation worn everyday as a reminder just how beautiful this world is. The black lava rock is from the Chimborazo Volcano in Ecuador while the three emeralds are from a mine in Bogotá Columbia. Two completely different parts of the world with one thing in common; both being on the equator line. Which brought this design to light. A men’s signet ring fashioned with an engraved line symbolizing the equator travelling from one destination to the next.
FAMILY love
-
Let’s take a moment to celebrate life. This gorgeous diamond ring was designed to signify just that. Four diamonds marks celebrating turning 40, 4 generations of females in the family and of course her 4 beautiful children. Each different shape representing each child, and intended to be passed down to them. Four diamonds held together by a free flowing gold band.

SOMETHING FROM NOTHING
-
Fashioned entirely from diamonds, rubies and gold unworn by a client, this ring was tranistioned into a wearable masterpiece. We were thrilled with the stunning transformation. Take a moment to explore your own jewelry box—you never know what hidden treasures might await rediscovery.

BEFORE & AFTER
-
This client had three rings she loved the look of but the sizes didn't feel comfortable and it was a very wide ring at the back of the finger.
So we removed all the stones and created a similar look to the old setting with everything set in one smooth, low profile, and comfortable ring. With a tapered back it still allows for a WOW look on top yet more mobility between the fingers. We changed the new setting so that all the larger stones were the focal point and the smaller ones accented the border.
We couldn't be happier with the turnout
FAMILY HEIRLOOM
-
Giving a grandmothers stone a fresh modern look. Continued to be worn and treasured.
SOMETHING PERSONAL
-
Approaching me with gemstones she had personally acquired, this client sought to breathe new life into them, envisioning a contemporary everyday piece that would highlight their beauty. The centerpiece, a Blue Topaz, is complemented by alternating blue sapphire and grey moissanite side stones.
